Frizz Happens: Why Letting Go Can Be the Best Thing You Do for Your Hair (and Your Sanity)

This past Saturday, I went to the March Madness Festival here in San Antonio to see Doechii and Pitbull—and let me just say, it was everything! The energy, the music, the crowd… truly a night to remember. But like any outdoor event in unpredictable Texas weather, there was one twist: rain.

Now, if you're someone with naturally curly hair like me, you already know where this is going. As soon as the drizzle started, my curls said, “Game on.” They frizzed, they fluffed, they turned into a full-on cloud of texture—meanwhile, my extensions stayed pin-straight. It was giving... two hairstyles in one. 😅
But here’s the thing: I came prepared. I had a claw clip in my bag just in case, and when I needed it, it came through. I pulled everything up into a cute, messy twist and danced my heart out in the remaining humidity. Not once did I waste a minute worrying about my hair, because I knew I'd planned ahead—and more importantly, I reminded myself that the moment mattered more than the mirror.
As a San Antonio Hair Stylist, I know how easy it is to put pressure on ourselves to have perfect hair all the time. Trust me, I get it—we love a good blowout, fresh highlights, and that crisp style that makes you feel like a new version of yourself. But some moments are just meant to be lived, not curated. Outdoor concerts, rainy festivals, or spontaneous nights out—these are the moments where your hair doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be you.
Here's your friendly stylist PSA: bring the claw clip. Throw a scrunchie in your bag. Plan ahead, but don’t stress. The weather will do what it wants, your curls might rebel, but your memories will be full of laughter—not frustration.
So next time you're headed to an event—especially here in unpredictable San Antonio—give yourself permission to enjoy the night, not just the style. Save the sleek looks for photo shoots, date nights, and other controlled settings where you can really showcase your hair goals. And if you need help finding the right look (or emergency plan B), come see me at Luna Hair Studio, your go-to San Antonio Hair Salon for real-life hair that works with you.
See you in the chair (and maybe in the crowd at the next show 😉).
